The
ARRI L-Series has launched with an LED Fresnel fixture so close to its
conventional equivalent in function and performance that it creates a
previously unattainable opportunity: like-for-like replacement of
traditional Fresnels with LED-based units.

Familiar, but Revolutionary

Quality
of light begins with the field. Smooth intensity, uniform color, even
illumination: all are traits shared by the L7 and conventional ARRI
Fresnels. Since Fresnels are workhorses of the lighting industry,
designers and technicians now have nothing new to learn in order to use
LED technology.

Focusability: Spot > Flood > Anywhere In-Between

Versatility
is the key element in traditional Fresnels, especially the ability to
spot and flood the beam as needed. Whether it’s a flood field for a
pullback shot or a tight spot for a bright highlight, the continuous
focusability of the L7 performs just as expected.

Versatile and Controllable Beam

Shaping
the beam to isolate talent and set elements. Cutting the field to
eliminate spill light. Controllability is crucial to lighting, and the
L7 provides the same ability as conventional Fresnels to cut and shape
with barndoors and flags. The only part missing is the heat: the L7
features a completely cool light beam, keeping talent comfortable and
air conditioning costs low.

Even Light Field

Clear,
defined shadows have traditionally been a trait only of single source
tungsten and daylight fixtures. ARRI L7 Fresnels provide the same single
shadow properties designers expect, delivering natural results.

Whereas
other LED fixtures have taken forms that demand sacrifices in the
quality of lighting designs, the L-Series is unique in that it fits
perfectly into established working practices. This means that lighting
designers will not have to adapt their creative techniques, nor will
studios have to change their operating procedures; conventional Fresnels
can be exchanged for L7 Fresnels on a like-for-like basis, achieving
substantial and immediate cost savings with minimal disruption.

Cool Burning and Cost Saving

L-Series
Fresnels burn cold; the lack of forward heat significantly reduces
studio air conditioning costs and allows for a much cooler work
environment. This makes life easier on set, both for the technicians
behind the lights and the talent in front of them.

DMX Control

For
broadcast studios, remote fixture control is of paramount importance,
and all functions of the L7 are controllable through DMX. The L7 is also
fully RDM compatible, providing bi-directional feedback and reporting
of parameters including system status; hours on the light engine; and
current DMX settings (with the ability to remotely assign and address
all fixtures in a DMX network).

On-Board Control

For
location applications, the ability to rapidly access all lamphead
parameters directly at the light is important. For this reason, an
optional on-board controller is available for the LED L7 Fresnels, with
manual intensity adjustment and DMX settings.

With the L7-C,
additional controls for color temperature and plus/minus green can be
switched to manipulate hue and saturation at the touch of a button, and
two fast-presets can be stored and recalled with ease.

Kino Flo 4ft. 4 Bank System

The 4BANK "Select" System consists of a four lamp fixture operated by a remote ballast.

The
Select Ballast is flicker free at any camera speed or shutter angle
with controls to power four lamps with individual lamp switching at
high-output or standard-output settings. The same ballast will power 4ft
or 2ft fixtures.

The 4BANK "Select" System is a soft key or fill
source that
can be used instead of diffusing light through fabric or bouncing light
off foam core, as with conventional HMI or tungsten sources.

As a comparison, the 4ft 4BANK is equal to a 1.2K HMI fresnel bounced, with these added advantages:

–Lower power consumption.

–Cooler operation.

–Better control of light with barn doors and louvers.

–Uses less set space.

–Can match to daylight, tungsten or existing fluorescent lighting without filtration.

The lightweight fixtures, weighing from 6 lbs to 10 lbs, make a day of
multiple set ups quick and easy. At the end of the day, lamps can remain
in the fixture for storage and transportation.

To change the
color temperature, select
the appropriate lamp. Refer to "Lamps" section for Kino Flo
color-correct lamps balanced to 2900 Kelvin, 3200 Kelvin and 5500

"As a DP, I am often hired to shoot interviews.  In many situations, the budget doesn't allow for a make up artist.  I have great respect for make up artists, and I could never replace their contritubution to the production craft.  However, for these situations, I've assembled a Shine Control Makeup Kit that helps address the problem of shine control.

The kit consistes of 16 specially designed sponge applicators, and 1 compact of Kett Set Powder. Kett Cosmetics is an industry leader in makeup designed for high definition video and digital image capture.

The Kett Sett Powder is translucent matt powder.  The sponges are latex free, and the powder is mica free.  The bags are made of recycled materials and are recyclable and biodegradable.

The kit has been very successful for me.  On a recent shoot, I shot 13 (1/2 hour) interviews, one after another, people of different ethnicities, men and women with multiple skin tones, complexions and of different ages. On every person, the kit affected the shine on their skin, but not their skin color, tone or texture. I highly recommend this kit to any cinematographer, videographer or still photographer who sometimes just needs something to take down the shine on their subject's complexion. 

At $34.88, the kit is less expensive than the collection of makeup compacts or assorted colors and  multiple applicators we normally carry, and is much easier to keep organized. This kit definitely belongs in every production kit along side the sash cord, clothespins and gaffer tape–as one of the essential expendables that keep productions moving.

The Plus III Transceiver features an impressive 32 channels.
Whether you’re a wedding or sports shooter or working in a busy
studio, finding a clear channel is never a problem. Selective Quad-Zone
Triggering, a feature once reserved for elite photographers, adds four
zones enabling photographers to remotely trigger flash and or cameras in
groups or individually. For photographers being asked to do more for
less, this added flexibility is a huge competitive advantage.

The Plus III is simple to operate.
The soft-touch keypad is large and intuitive and a beautifully backlit
LCD panel displays everything you need to know. All of this is
presented in a sleek, side-view design which reduces the viewing
obstruction while conveniently positioning all controls. The
precision-tuned antenna is housed inside the case of the radio for
better durability.

The Plus III adds to the legendary Plus reliability with a working range that will meet photographer’s everyday needs.
For more challenging environments or distances, there are two added
features to improve range and reliability. Long Range Mode (LR) will
roughly double the working range and is ideal for remote camera
triggering. Repeater Mode (RP) allows the addition of one or more
radios in between the transmitting and receiving radios to overcome
distance, obstacles or other interference. RP mode works well for both
remote camera triggering and remote flash triggering.

Like the
Plus II, the Plus III is an Auto-Sensing Transceiver which means it
will automatically switch between transmit and receive as needed.

This is very useful when syncing remote cameras to remote flash. When
the receiving radio on a remote camera receives a trigger, it can
automatically engage Auto-Relay Mode and send a trigger signal out on
the next higher channel. This triggers remote flash completely in-sync
with the remote camera.

Remote camera users will love the new Two-Stage Trigger feature.
The TEST button on the Plus III acts like a camera’s shutter release
with “half-press”. Use this unique feature to wake, focus and meter a
remote camera before triggering. Pressing TEST all the way triggers the
remote camera. Also, with a Plus III on a hand-held camera connected
with a PocketWizard ACC cable to the motor-drive port, that camera’s
shutter release will also wake and prepare a remote camera for shooting.
With remote camera triggering you can deliver two or more images for
every push of the button and capture multiple angles all at the same
time.

Of course, the Plus III is reverse-compatible with all PocketWizard radios,
making it the perfect addition to existing gear. It is especially well
paired with the MultiMAX which has the same set of 32 channels and four
zones.

The Plus III can fire at sustained triggering rates of up to a blazing 14.5 frames per second.
Two AA batteries can power the Plus III up to 50 hours and when needed
for remote camera triggering, it can be powered with an external
battery through the Mini-B USB 2.0 port. The USB port can also be used
for firmware updates.
